Colin Black - Founder

Colin is a music producer, DJ, photographer and videographer from the Inner-hebridean Isle of Lismore, off the West Coast of Scotland. Currently living and studying in Glasgow, Colin is looking to expand his creative horizons, and develop projects that connect to his heritage and his love for the natural world.

Having spent the past several years running successful club nights in Glasgow, Colin’s goals are to express the fondness he feels for the natural environments he grew up in, and explore Scotland’s cultural heritage by creating works inspired by or telling the stories of Scotland’s history, with a focus on stories that seem to slip by the general Scottish knowledge.

Colin’s unique blend of somber sound design and digital & analog synthesis give his works an alluring melancholic, and sometimes foreboding tone.

Rory Green - Founder

Rory is a multidisciplinary digital artist and music producer from the Campsie Fells, currently living in Glasgow. He is studying at the Glasgow School of Art, and has released numerous musical works under the moniker Manuka.

Rory integrates synthesis hardware and digital sound production methods into cathartic works, which at times draw inspiration directly from the Scottish wilderness. His ambient record Palisades focussed on Corrour in the Scottish Highlands, capturing the peaceful and sometimes harsh nature of the landscape. Available to listen/watch/buy here

In 2019, Rory took part in Audiotalaia’s annual sound arts residency in the Catalan mountains, near Barcelona. Drawing influence from his surroundings and collaborating with artists from around the world, Rory created a series of pieces and a public installation. Available to listen/buy here

Rory’s intentions with Sàimh Sound are to explore Scotland’s natural history through the lense of ambient music and sound creation, and shine a light on Scotland’s profound natural beauty, its blissful yet sometimes harsh atmosphere, and the threats it faces with the onset of climate change.

Rylan Gleave - Composer, Contributor

Rylan Gleave is a Leith-based composer and vocalist whose musical practice involves mending the unfeigned gaps in his classical voice study with the healings of imaginative neuro-/gender-divergent kinship. Re-emerging as a composer/performer, his recent work has explored the instrumental qualities of his late-breaking trans-masc voice through queer autoethnography, and autistic-specific notation. His compositions have been praised as ‘haunting’ by The Herald, and ‘rapturous’ by The Scotsman, who named him ‘One to Watch’ 2021, describing him as ‘one of the brightest lights in Scotland’s new music scene’.

Recent commissions include pieces for the Royal Philharmonic Society’s Composer Programme / Presteigne Festival, Sound and Music / New Voices, Crossing Borders Music / Momenta Dance Company, Shadwell Opera, newEar Chamber Ensemble / KC No Divide, and Red Note Ensemble. His recent projects have included new notes; better days, working with Cox's Bazar Rohingya Refugee Musicians in Bangladesh, after receiving a British Council Unlimited Micro Award: and KITH, nominated for Forecast Edition 6, Berlin, where he was mentored by composer/performer Sofia Jernberg. Currently he is working with cellist and improviser Simone Seales with Oxford Contemporary Music (OCM) on their residency, BOOM.
