Abstract

In August 2021, we (Rory & Colin) travelled to Colin’s home island of Lismore to spend a week camping and creating a series of works reflecting on the island’s geology, flora, fauna, folklore and history.

Our days were spent wandering the island recording, filming, producing, writing, drawing and setting up mini-installations to be documented.

We would like to say a huge thank you to CHARTS, https://www.chartsargyllandisles.org/ as well as the Glasgow School of Art Students Association for making this possible, and also Norma & Gilleasbuig Black for all the electricity.

The works (left) will be uploaded fortnightly. We hope you enjoy them. We hope to use these works to encourage “slow tourism,” a set of ideals for travel that prioritise sustainability, respect for the environment and highland exploration that benefits rural communities and grassroots art.

If you would like more information about the island, how to get there, where you can stay, and the best ways to explore responsibly please reach out on instagram:
